My Story

If you clicked on the front page and you’ve read this far, I’m guessing you really would like to read more of my story. I’m flattered and horrified as I don’t like to talk about myself. Self promotion is one of the hardest parts of building a brand, and I, like many people, hate it. I’d rather talk about ideals, or events or other people. But if we must, here is the shortest possible version of my crazy life.

I grew up in the Milo-Grogan neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio and was largely educated in private schools. I spent my entire childhood being exposed to and learning about business and politics inside and outside of my inner city community. So, from an early age, I spent time with many different kinds of people of different socio-economic backgrounds and cultures. I also witnessed and experienced firsthand how economic and political power structures can shape communities, for better or worse.

With this experience in mind, I decided that my future was in politics. Throughout my teens and into my early twenties, I held my political aspirations above all else. But when I got married, I realized that having a wife and children would force me to think of the negative effects it would have on the people I loved the most. So, I turned my attention to starting my own business or organization.

My wife Terreece, who is a novelist now, is a journalist by training and education. She began freelance writing right around the turn of the century, just before we got married. Because I had a knack for it, I became her editor. Over time, her writing career began to evolve into an all purpose, writing, editing, social media, graphic design, PR, marketing business with her being the primary on the project side, and me being the primary on the business end. This is how our consulting company was born.

In my interactions with clients and customers for our company, as we’ll as my many interactions with customers and clients in my job positions outside of our business, I’ve learned that everything begins and ends with people. How you treat them. How they treat you. And how you all agree to regard on another. Everything, and I mean everything, hinges on the relationships that you create. Completing the tasks, making the money, securing the resources — all of this comes behind establishing the relationships.

I also realized that this has always been the case in every area of my life. From my life in school and college, to my time in politics and community activism, all of my personal interactions, even times I’ve spent with strangers — everything begins and ends with the condition of your relationships. So, over the years, I developed the Hot and Cold Life philosophy. I did so just as a way to explain why I approach relationships in the manner I do, so I could find a concise way to pass this knowledge on to our kids. It’s become so much more.

I’ve now come to a place where I know I can clearly, concisely communicate this philosophy in a way that will help people from all walks of life navigate their individual circumstances, whether personal or professional. And now, I think it’s the best place that I’m suited to make a difference in the world. And helping more people in their personal and professional lives find their peace within the chaos of our lives helps me find peace in mine. I feel purpose here. I’d love for you to join me on the ride.
